An employer that is hiring people may want to check if the person applying for a job has criminal court records. Fortunately, the Web has made the process of background checking much easier. The process is also cheaper compared to years past.

Using the Internet to find Records

This information can be obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration website. There are also many other websites that will look up the person’s background. The process is typically the same.

After going to the website, click the link that will take you to the appropriate state. Next you should click “court records” or something similar.

In some cases you have to specify if the records you want are 25 years older or younger. You will then choose if you want the info be shown by pdf, in person or by mail.

Provide the Proper Information

To access the criminal court records, you must supply the appropriate information. This would include the transfer name, case file name and number and location number.

The agency box number will also be needed. Next you have to specify if you want a docket sheet, a specific document or the whole case file. Either of these options is going to cost a small fee.

Other Information Required

Your name, address, phone number and mailing address will be required. The payments have to be included with the file copies. The payment can be by money order or by check. The payment should be for the National Archives Trust Find.

Those using credit cards have to specify what type they are using (i.e, Master Card, Visa etc). The expiration date and card number have to be provided for as well. The three-digit security code and the name on the card have to be provided for as well. Now you can mail it out.

Other Ways to Obtain the Records

You can try and get in touch with the municipality or county where the individual was tried. You can get information about the records from the court clerk. Sometimes the records can be accessed via the Net.

In other cases, you will have to go to the court. Whatever the case may be, ensure that you have the full name and the date of birth of the individual.

Keep in mind that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination against people with criminal court records. However, there are jobs that expressly forbid those with records.
